The Metropolitan region concentrates the 80% of new cases informed this morning by the Ministry of Health.
According to the balance published by the Government, the capital reported 1,145 of the 1,427 infected in the last hours.
The number recorded in the region this day implies an increase of 28.51% compared to what was released yesterday, Friday, May 1, maintaining constant growth.
Thus, it is positioned as the most hit by the virus, with a total of 11,661 of the 18,435 nationwide. In other words, it concentrates 63.25% of all those infected in Chile.
It is followed much later by La Araucanía, with 1,314 cases (7.13%); Ñuble, with 776 (4.21%); and Bío Bío, with 751 (4.07%).
Further, concentrates 49.39% of the 247 deaths at the national level.
Deputies ask for total quarantine
Given the figures, opposition deputies Juan Luis Castro (PS) and Daniel Verdessi (DC) demanded the implementation of more rigid isolation measures for the Metropolitan region.
The phalanx representative said that for the area “a special look is necessary” and that it is necessary to “go to total quarantine”, since “This can be escaped.”
“We are not on a plateau, there has been an increase in cases,” he questioned.
“If we stay in a thousand cases a day for a long time, the system may collapse, and that is why I call attention to the information that is available and the opinion of the technical committee, so that more severe measures can be taken to stop now , when it is still possible, a system collapse ”, he added.
Meanwhile, Castro – former president of the Medical College – maintained that the Government has issued confusing signals and that the responsibility falls on them, giving the image that everything is improving.
