Santiago Metro reopened this Thursday the Cardenal Caro station of Line 3, a measure that especially favors the transfer of passengers from the commune of Conchalí. With this, the route that connects the communes of Quilicura with La Reina completed its reconstruction process putting into service the total of its 18 stations.
“With the opening of Cardenal Caro we are completing Line 3, which joins Line 2 and Line 6, which are also with all their stations open,” said Louis de Grange, president of Metro, at the reopening of the site.

“In this way we are facilitating the transfers of those who cannot stay at home and, most importantly, those who perform key functions in the context of the pandemic, such as people who work in hospitals and health services,” he added.
In addition, during the first week of May, Metro also hopes to reopen access to the Baquedano station, which will once again enable it to enter and exit passengers. This station returned to operate as a combination point between Line 1 and Line 5 on April 8 last.
With the reopening of these three stations (Cardenal Caro; Baquedano L1 for the access located in front of the Theater of the University of Chile and Baquedano L5 for the access of Parque Bustamante), Metro will have 116 enabled stations out of a total of 136 stations, it is that is, it will have 85% of its operating network.
However, due to the health crisis of the covid-19 that the city is experiencing, these reopens will not imply increasing the number of personnel currently working on the lines, since the equipment will be redistributed in order to maintain a limited provision at the network, to protect workers against possible infections, ensuring their rotation on different shifts.
In addition to the mentioned stations, the station reopening calendar corresponding to the reconstruction process considers incorporating 12 stations during the months of May and June. These reopens will complete the recovery of all Line 1 and 4A, reaching a total of 128 of 136 enabled stations, corresponding to 94% of the network.

Finally, the replacement of the Plaza de Maipú station was scheduled for the end of June, due to vandalism that occurred after the events of October 2019 that delayed the process of rebuilding stations in that sector.
