A medium-magnitude earthquake was registered on Wednesday night in the Tarapacá region, according to auditors from Radio Bío Bío in the zone.

The National Seismological Center reported that the movement of tectonic plates occurred when the clock marked 10:34 p.m. (continental time) in Chile.

Preliminarily, the department belonging to the University of Chile calculated the magnitude of the earthquake at 4.9 degrees on the Ricther scale.

Meanwhile, the geographical reference of the earthquake was 63 kilometers to the southwest of the Colchane commune and had an approximate depth of 139 kilometers.

Onemi ruled out damage to people, alteration to basic services or infrastructure as a result of this earthquake.

Meanwhile, the SHOA indicated that its characteristics do not meet the conditions to cause a tsunami on the Chilean coast.
