Part of the mayors of the communes of the Metropolitan region that will remain in phase 2 of the Step by Step plan, criticized the health authorities for the decision, amid the rise in cases in the capital.
From this Monday, January 4 at 5:00, 21 communes will advance to phase 3 of Preparation. These are Alhué, Calera de Tango, Isla de Maipo, Tiltil, Peñaflor, Quilicura, El Monte, La Pintana, Conchalí, Colina, Melipilla, Talagante, Lampa, Recoleta, Huechuraba, San Bernardo, María Pinto, Buin, Paine, San Pedro and Pirque.
The rest of the communes, meanwhile, will remain in phase 2 of Transition. That is, they will be quarantined on weekends, but their inhabitants will also be able to go on vacation to other areas of the country.
Given the decision of the Ministry of Health, the issues did not take long to appear, because the second wave of infections of covid-19 is a reality. For this reason, communal chiefs of certain communes that did not advance in phase criticized this measure.

The mayor of The Prado, Maximiliano Ríos, said that he regrets the decision to advance only certain communes. In addition, he expressed that he does not understand the logic of the authorities’ measures, and that he believes they are being “blindfolded.”
Along the same lines, the mayor of MaculGonzalo Montoya pointed out that, according to his point of view, the Government is not clear about the Step by Step plan and the measures they take have improvisation quotas. In addition, he added that a regional and not communal vision should be had.
According to the latest balance, of the 2,289 new cases of covid-19 reported nationwide, 440 are from the Metropolitan region.
Meanwhile, according to the latest epidemiological report from the Ministry of Health, the capital is on the verge of 5,000 active cases. At December 31, the Metropolitan region accumulated 4,977 active cases1,175 more people than in the previous report of December 27.
