This Saturday Lucía Pinto confirmed that she had submitted her resignation as Mayor of Coquimbo, after it became known that the prosecution initiated an investigation in the entity that he directed for an alleged fraud to the treasury for 9,800 million pesos linked to the purchase of a lot of land.

Through his social networks, Pinto published a statement in which he states that “in view of the events that have occurred in recent weeks, I have submitted my unwavering resignation from office.”

Because of the deep love I have for my region, which I have always served with dedication, commitment and loyalty, I have made this decision, as it will allow me to dedicate myself completely to my defense. I don’t want the Coquimbo region and the government I have served to be affected in any way, “he said.

In addition, he expressed his gratitude to President Sebastián Piñera “for his permanent support and trust, but especially for the affectionate support he has given me at this time.”

In the letter he also assured that he will show that “at all times I have acted exclusively pursuing the welfare of my region.”

According to a report published by Radio Biobío, the national prosecutor, Jorge Abbott, appointed the persecutor Claudia Perivancich to investigate the case after the purchase made by Pinto of a piece of land for 9,800 million pesos, despite the fact that its appraisal barely exceeded 4 billion.
