The mayor of Estación Central, Rodrigo Delgado, will be appointed as the new Minister of the Interior, replacing the resigned Victor Perez, who left office regarding the advance of the constitutional accusation against him.
Above other options, the President of the Republic, Sebastian Piñera, it was decided by the communal head of Central Station, as confirmed by sources of Radio Bío Bío.
Like Pérez, Delgado Mocarquer is a member of the Independent Democratic Union (UDI) and during the afternoon of this Wednesday he will seal his departure from the municipality in an extraordinary session of the council via zoom.
By profession a psychologist, the union member became mayor after winning the 2008 election, a triumph that he would revalidate in the 2012 and 2016 elections.
Earlier this Wednesday, the deputy Minister of the Interior, Juan Francisco Galli, had announced that “soon” there would be news about the new chief of staff.
There were immediate reactions in the UDI regarding the appointment of Delgado as the new “second on board” in the Government.
The deputy of the community, Osvaldo Urrutia Soto, was satisfied and happy with the decision of President Piñera.
“He has chosen a person who has very good skills, abilities, knowledge to face the problems that exist today throughout Chile and particularly in Santiago,” said Urrutia.
In that direction, the parliamentarian highlighted Delgado’s performance as mayor, ensuring that he was someone accustomed to working in the field and close to the public.
“He showed a lot of closeness to people and that is important, he knows people, makes contact with them, he is a man of the field. During the pandemic and during the social outbreak we saw him a lot in the field working side by side with his officials and with the people … and that is very good for a minister, for a minister to have this knowledge because he is also closer to the solution ”, stressed.
