Mayor Felipe Guevara led a presentation and coordination meeting of the Carabineros high command that will be in charge of the Metropolitan Region.
In the instance, the events that have occurred recently in the capital and those that may occur in the future were evaluated. A daily coordination meeting was established between the highest regional authority and the Carabineros.
At the appointment, the events that take place daily and future planning in various parts of the Metropolitan Region will be evaluated.
“We condemn violence, violence is undemocratic, it has nothing to do with the right to demonstrate in democracy. We can do it freely and in order, raising our arguments. And for that, the right of opinion and assembly works in our country. Crime, violence and the destruction of public and private space have nothing to do with the right to demonstrate, it has to do with pure and harsh crime, “said the mayor.
The Carabineros version
For his part, Inspector General Marcelo Araya stressed that this meeting made it possible to establish the guidelines and diagnosis in the different scenarios to work on in matters of security and public order.
“We are going to observe with due caution the events and how these types of demonstrations occur. Our call will always be to peace, because we all undoubtedly want to live and develop and as Carabineros we will contribute with our work ”, he assured.
Monday’s day was marked by different violent acts in the center of the capital, which left a balance of 23 detainees, three of them for looting a pharmacy on Santa Isabel street, one arrested for looting an importer in the Calle Estado, two women injured, one of them by a stone hit to her face, and the other who received a Molotov cocktail to her head.
“The call is to condemn these violent and undemocratic acts; the President of the Republic was elected for a determined period by a huge number of citizens, and we must respect him. Democracy that has to do precisely with that, with allowing institutions to function in our country ”, declared the mayor.
