Marcos Mundstock, narrator of Les Luthiers, dies at 77

Les Luthiers and their followers are in mourning. Marcos Mundstock, narrator of the Argentine musical-humorous group – known for his ingenuity in puns – died at the age of 77 in Buenos Aires.

According to El País, the artist’s death is due to a disease that was diagnosed in February 2019.

Descendant of Jewish immigrants from Poland, he was in charge of writing the Les Luthiers scripts combining humor with music in perfect harmony. In addition to alternating the use of traditional instruments with other gadgets that gave a new dynamic to their shows.

In a statement released by the band, they confirmed the death. “Marcos, our partner and friend, finally passed away. From now on, each one of us must begin to walk the painful path of learning to live with his absence. ”

But looking for a positive turn, they declare that they keep the good memory of their partner. “Thinking about games or absences today is too sad for us. Today we prefer to evoke what Marcos gave us and we will keep with us forever. We will be left with the memory of his voice, unique and unmistakable. This is the third death to hit Les Luthiers. In 1973 Gerardo Masana died at age 36 and in 2015 Daniel Rabinovich at 71. Later, in 2017, Carlos Núñez Cortés retired from the group at age 75 after receiving with the band the Princess of Asturias Award for Humanities .

Currently, Les Luthiers are still active and have six members, of which two are from their original formation: Carlos López Puccio and Jorge Maronna. Over time, they incorporated Tato Turano, Martín O’Connor, Roberto Antier and Tomás Mayer Wolf.
