The Minister of Health, Jaime Mañalich, assured that the return to classes should be done as soon as possible, although under security and gradual criteria due to the new coronavirus pandemic.
During the daily update of the Covid-19 cases, the Secretary of State asserted that prolonged quarantines generate adverse effects in children.
“I want to emphasize that it is evident that this process (the return to classes) requires doing as soon as possible, but with security and also flexibility (…) What we have to guarantee as a State is that this process be carried out gradually and safely, “said Mañalich in his speech.
“Every day is more evident than strict quarantines, keeping vulnerable children in their homes, brings adverse effects and it is something that must be put in the balance of this difficult decision of a safe return to the ‘new normal’, “he added.
In addition, he maintained that the Ministry of Education is working to determine a return date to the classrooms.
“It is very different to return to classes in a large educational compound with an enrollment of more than a thousand students who are in the middle of a commune with a high number of cases than to do it in a rural commune or in a commune where there are practically no cases and that is being taken by the education authorities to take the best schedule in agreement with the mayors, “he said.
Minister of Education: It would be irresponsible to give a date
Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Raúl Figueroa, said that there is still no specific date for the return to classes.
“It would be irresponsible of me to give a date for the return to classes because I don’t have it, since it depends on a series of essentially sanitary factors, “said the Minister of Education.
