Two officers were injured after being run over near the United States Congress by a vehicle whose driver was detained, police said Friday. Later it was reported that the subject would have died.

The television images showed a blue car that had crashed into the security barrier of one of the streets leading to the United States Congress. They also showed two people on stretchers, who appeared to be the wounded officers.
The authorities have not yet released any information on the identity of the driver of the vehicle.
This incident occurs after the violent assault on the Capitol building on January 6 by supporters of former president Donald Trump who wanted to interrupt the certification of the elections.
Since then, authorities have erected a barrier and closed a wide perimeter around the United States Congress, but in recent days they have begun to reduce the fenced area and open up traffic.
Following the incident on Friday, the Capitol and adjacent buildings were closed. In any case, Congress was in recess for Easter, so there were fewer personnel in the place.
Congressman Peter Meijer called on Twitter to “pray” for the Capitol police officers and emergency personnel at the scene.
“We are trying to understand the situation that is developing on Capitol Hill right now,” said the congressman.
At the same time, US media report that the driver of the vehicle accused of being the person responsible for the accident has died.
