“Mainly women”: pension adjustment begins for more than 1.3 million people | Economy

This January 1, 2021, the second stage of the increase of the Basic Solidarity Pension (PBS) and the Maximum Pension with Solidarity Contribution (PMAS) stipulated in Law 21,190 that increases the benefits of the Solidarity Pillar, which came into effect in December 2019.

The surrogate Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, Pedro Pizarro, reported that “of the total beneficiaries of the Solidarity Pillar who receive the PBS or an APS, 1,327,267 people will get the readjustment since January 1, mainly women ”.

Currently, the number of beneficiaries of the Basic Solidarity Pension (PBS) and the Solidarity Pension Contribution (APS) reaches 1,686,081 people. Of this total, 1,033,433 are women and 652,648 are men.

In this way, the authority detailed, “from January 2021 the beneficiaries of the Basic Solidarity Pension less than or equal to 74 years will see their pension increased from $ 141,374 to $ 158,339, and people between 75 and 79 years old will spend $147,029 to 169,649 “.

Pedro Pizarro recalled that “in December 2019 and with the entry into force of Law 21,190, pensioners over 80 years of age received the largest increase in one go, equivalent to 50%, and that today it reaches $ 169,649, including the readjustment of July 2020 according to CPI ”.

He added that “in 2022 all the beneficiaries of the pillar will have reached an increase of $ 59,448, in addition to the benefits they were receiving as of November 2019, to which is also added the readjustment according to the variation of the CPI, which is applied in July every year”.

“So then, in January 2022 all pensioners over 65 will receive a Basic Solidarity Pension of $ 169,649, this is a 50% real increase in their pensions, compared to November 2019 ”, highlighted the authority.


There are 587,861 people who receive PBS – either for old age or disability – of which 31.04% are men and 68.96% are women.

On the other hand, there are 1,098,216 people who receive PHC – either for old age or disability – of which 42.81% are men and 57.19% are women.

Meanwhile, the Maximum Pension with Solidarity Contribution, PMAS, will go from $ 417,764 to $ 467,894 for those under 74 years of age, and will increase from $ 434,474 to $ 501,316 for beneficiaries between 75 and 79 years of age.

Pensioners who receive PBS or APS for disability, will also receive the readjustment as of January 1, 2021.

The Social Security Institute (IPS) will automatically begin to pay the readjustment from January 2021. Beneficiaries will see the increase when they receive their pension.
