Magallanes registers for the first time more than 200 new cases of Covid-19 and the total number of infections nationwide exceeds 420 thousand

The Ministry of Health published this Saturday the daily balance on the evolution of Covid-19 in the country. According to this document, The Magallanes Region exceeded, for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 200 daily cases.

Regarding the situation at the national level, for the second consecutive day, new infections exceeded 1,900. Today 1,961 were reported, of which 1,368 are symptomatic, 538 have no symptoms and 55 have not been reported.

So, the total number of coronavirus cases in the country amounted to 420,434. Of this number, 15,916 are active cases – people who can spread the virus – and 392,967 correspond to recovered.

The Metropolitan region remains the area most affected by the pandemic after confirming 573 new cases. In addition, it is the fifth day that it registers more than five hundred daily infections.

To the capital it is followed by the Biobío Region (234); Valparaíso (207) and Magallanes (206). The latter registered the highest number of infections since the start of the pandemic, surpassing the 200 barrier for the first time.

With this, this Saturday was the worst day in a region -proportional to its population- in relation to active cases. Magallanes concentrates 0.92% of the national population and today had 10.51% of the new cases detected nationwide. That is to say, one in ten new infections is from that region.

On the other hand, and according to data from the Department of Statistics and Health Information of the Minsal, in the last day 57 deaths were reported.

With that, the total number of deaths in the country from Covid-19 reached 11,551.

To date – indicated the daily report – 908 people are hospitalized in intensive care units, of which 666 are on mechanical ventilation and 121 are in critical condition.

Regarding the Integrated Health Network, there is a total of 490 ventilators available in the country.

Finally, regarding PCR tests, in the last 24 hours the laboratories reported 34,595 tests, reaching a total of 2,575,313 examinations analyzed nationwide to date. While, daily positivity fell again from 6% this Saturday, registering 5.67%
