A tense conversation with Cooperative held this morning the former minister Pablo Longueira, who last weekend announced, in an interview with El Mercurio, that he would vote for the “I approve” In the Plebiscite of October 25, he would run as a constituent and compete for the presidency of his party – in which he protested last week.
At the beginning of the program, the also former senator was consulted about the internal tension that this latest announcement caused in the UDI. Figures like the mayor of Providencia, Evelyn matthei -who last week broke into the presidential race-, stated that “he was not in a position” to lead the community, since he first had to resolve the judicial process, for the crime of bribery that is imputed to him, in the framework of the case SQM.
In this sense, Longueira replied: “(Those reactions) hurt me because I expected them from other people. Those of the Matthei, I have a very different concept of her. I am a democrat, I respect the rule of law. One is innocent until proven otherwise. I am it. I don’t have a glass roof. The persecution that the Prosecutor’s Office has made of me does not prevent me from being a candidate “.
However, towards the end of the interview, the former presidential candidate was again consulted about the judicial conflicts that he still has pending. On this occasion, he responded, obviously annoyed, to the question asked, raising the tone of his voice in one of his sentences: “I don’t have backpacks, because I don’t have a glass roof. Get it in your head. I don’t have a backpack, compadre. I don’t care about the populists (…) Do you know who Horvitz is? You know perfectly who it is. The communist, criminal, who is persecuting me in the State Defense Council “said, referring to attorney María Inés Horvitz.
Along these lines, he continued: “Do not worry, buy, if the communists have persecuted me because they are looking for an image murder. I don’t have a glass roof. I have no complexes. To another with that. Don’t go on with it. I don’t have backpacks compadre. I walk with my forehead wide. There is no one more honest than me in Chilean politics, compadre “.
Longueira also reacted when asked if it existed “opportunism” on his return to the political world.
“How can there be opportunism when I’m going through it as I’m going through it? There is nothing more ridiculous. If there is someone who gave an account of the defense of my principles in public life, it was me “, he expressed.
Longueira also addressed the truckers’ strike that has been going on for several days. “I have no idea. That’s how frank I am. I am in La Araucanía and I have not seen the news for 7 years. I was stopped the other day in Ercilla, Collipulli, I work and I travel because I am starting a family business and I had to be in a taco with only truckers “, he recounted.
Along these lines, he continued: “I know the feeling of the people of work and effort in Chile. The Chileans who are destroying the country are tired, the work Chileans are choked up, “and he added that” there are no pants in Chile. Were there people who condemned the violence on October 18? The silence was a shame. Were there people from the Concertación who condemned that? It was a shame. At what level are we, there is no courage “.
