Lifeless man rescued who fell into a 10-meter sewer in Santiago | National

For hours the rescue of a man who fell into a sewer chamber at the intersection of Matta avenue with Viel in Santiago, in the Metropolitan region.

The events occurred at 12:15 p.m., when the man and his son were doing some shopping and while passing through the central bandejón of Matta avenue, the first stepped on the lid of the chamber, which gave way and caused its fall from approximately 10 meters deep.

After several procedures, firefighters managed to rescue the body from the inside, to later corroborate his death due to the severity of his injuries.

The victim was identified as Cornelio Salvo, 66 years old, residing in the commune of Recoleta.

Rescue units from the 6th, 17th and 4th Fire Company participated in the proceedings.

Among the difficulties that the volunteers had to overcome was that the well had garbage and debris, in addition to having two levels.

Cristian Mediavilla, captain of the 6th Fire Company, reported prior to his rescue that the victim had injuries incompatible with life, but his death had to be confirmed by the SAMU.

The family has already been notified of the events and the North Central Prosecutor’s Office He instructed the Homicide Brigade to proceed.

Said unit will be in charge of determining how the events occurred and the possible responsibilities regarding the maintenance of the sewer system.

According to the son of the victim to the police, who was with him at the time of the accident, it all happened when with his father they crossed Matta in the middle of the block and, when he jumped a bush, he stepped on the lid of the camera.
