At a press point offered on the shores of Route 68, in front of the Lo Vásquez Sanctuary, by the president of the Federation of Truck Owners of the Fifth Region (Fedequinta), Ivan Mateluna, the leader indicated that they are studying the latest government proposal regarding their demands.
“The government’s proposals are being worked on by our crisis committee together with lawyers. This is the third time (they have handed us a proposal) and perhaps a fourth proposal from the government will come (later), so we cannot know if this is going to be fixed today, tomorrow or the day after, “he said.
According to Mateluna, they consider that the government is playing at the wear and tear of the movement, ensuring that they can be unemployed “for another week if that is the case,” although “I am not saying it will be like that because it depends on the grassroots.”
Asked about his main demands, the leader of the Valparaíso truckers assured that the most important point is that the truck driver continues to receive his salary in case of being the victim of a violent act that prevents him from working.
“We are interested in the driver having the assurance that when he has a problem of theft, burning, assault or kidnapping, he receives his full salary as he was paid while he was working. What we want is to work in peace, that’s why this is a turning point “, he sentenced.

Mateluna added that its other two key points are the protection of the highways to make them safe, as well as the increase in the police force in the conflict territories where truck burns have occurred.
“We are interested in having the assurance that the government’s promises will be fulfilled, because they tell us about extremely urgent laws, but some have been in the process for five years and they tell us that studies have to be carried out, so how urgent is it? they are talking? These people are disconnected from reality and from their society ”, he asserted.
Asked about the indication of the Confederación de Camiones del Sur that it would try to prevent trucks from entering Temuco, Mateluna indicated that this depended on each group but that they want each driver and truck owner to “become aware” and fold into unemployment.
“We are interested in that no one moves in Chile,” he said, assuring that his union currently works without security. “There is no rule of law here. Anyone robs us, steals or burns our trucks, “he replied.
