Already confirmed as a candidate for the presidency, the mayor of Las Condes Joaquín Lavín (UDI) gave some definitions on matters of value.
In an interview with “Mesa Central” of Channel 13, Lavín referred to matters such as free abortion, homoparental adoption and euthanasia.
Regarding free abortion, the communal chief stated the following: “I believe in life from conception to natural death. A project like this I would veto if I were president.”
On the other hand, Lavín stated that “in the case of homoparental adoption, I am in favor of the Civil Union Agreement allowing adoption, but not (I agree) marriage.”
In addition, the former Minister of Education established that “in the case of euthanasia, I don’t like it. These are issues that must be discussed further.”
Continuing with his position on euthanasia, the mayor of Las Condes expressed that “I do not like it, in the sense that effectively when a patient is terminal, you do not have to be through care artificially lengthening his life, that is not. But I also have a hard time thinking about the burden that it means for an elderly person.
“It does not have to be a government of either the right or the left. It has to be with the right and with the left. And that is what I call a government of ‘national coexistence'”, Joaquín Lavín says for the next government.
