One day after the legal deadline for government officials to resign from their positions in order to participate in next year’s parliamentary elections, the Palacio de la Moneda finally confirmed the departure of 12 authorities.
As reported by La Moneda through a press release, there are two undersecretaries, two mayors and 8 governors.
The first authority to leave his post is the Undersecretary of Finance Francisco Moreno (UDI), who presented his resignation yesterday to the minister of the portfolio, Ignacio Briones. In principle, Moreno would have the intention of being a member of the constitutional convention, although palace sources detailed that he could run to go to the Chamber of Deputies.
The Undersecretary of Regional Development (Subdere), Juan Masferrer (UDI), will also leave to seek a seat in the Lower House to represent the O’Higgins region, where he is from.
In the Ñuble region, Martín Arrau (UDI) will leave the Intendancy. And in Biobío, the mayor Sergio Giacaman, also presented his resignation, to dispute the quota that the deputy Enrique van Rysselberghe will leave in the Chamber.
