Starting at 6:00 pm this Thursday, the sanitary cords came into effect in the Metropolitan Region and in Greater Concepción due to the long weekend that begins this Friday. The measure seeks to prevent citizens from traveling to other cities or second homes amid the coronavirus pandemic.
However, the measure has not been an impediment for many people to take the Labor Day holiday to travel to other cities. In fact, after 7:00 p.m., according to the report of Cooperative, A line of cars of about six kilometers was already observed passing through the sanitary control located on Route 5 South.
In this regard, the undersecretary of Public Works, Gustavo Leturia, explained that it is mandatory for all vehicles to go through said sanitary control. “This is a mandatory control, all vehicles are going to be controlled and inspected. All vehicles that leave the Metropolitan Region and Greater Concepción must demonstrate that they are heading for their final residence.”
At another point, specifically at kilometer 50 of the Autopista del Sol, congestion was also reported due to police controls, a situation that is repeated at kilometer 58 of Route 68.
