As of 10:00 am today, the Chamber of the Chamber of Deputies will debate and vote on the admissibility of the constitutional accusation presented against the Minister of the Interior, Víctor Pérez. If approved, the libel will go to the Senate and the minister will remain suspended.
The defense of the Secretary of State will be in charge of the lawyer Gabriel Zaliasnik, who represented in the same instance the former Minister of Health, Jaime Mañalich. The controversial former head of the Minsal managed to circumvent the constitutional accusation on October 13. However, this time the result is considered negative for Minister Pérez, since the opposition would have enough votes in the Chamber.
If the indictment is approved, Pérez will become the Prime Minister of the Interior to be removed from office since the return to democracy. On January 11, the libel against Andrés Chadwick was approved when it was no longer in the portfolio.
At the start of today’s session, Zaliasnik should present the pre-issue, that is, that the prosecution does not meet the requirements and therefore must be declared as not filed. If the previous question is rejected, the room will enter the merits of the matter. In any case, it is not clear that the defense raises a preliminary question, since it could ask to go to the fund immediately, as Mañalich did.
However, since the accusation comes with a recommendation for approval by the reviewing commission, the floor will be given to the deputy that the majority of the commission has designated to support it and, later, the affected party will be heard, if present, or the written defense you have submitted will be read.
