The president of the Independent Democratic Union (UDI), Jacqueline Van Rysselberghe, proposed that the right be united in a single list for the election of the constituents.
In April 2021 Chileans will choose the 155 representatives who will be in charge of drafting a new constitution to replace the current one.
In this context, the union helmsman advocated that the entire right, including the Republican Party, participate in the election on the same list.
“The constituent process is different from the rest of the electoral processes, because here we are talking about what will define the model of society and the principles that will govern the society of tomorrow“, Stressed the president of the UDI.
For Van Rysselberghe unity is essential in the face of the constituent process, arguing that this time it is not a question of a competition between political parties.
“It seems to us that those of us who share the same idea should go on a single list. And even more so because the constituent process it is not a competition between the parties … those who we are going to have to convince are those who are in charge so that we can generate great agreements, “he added.
The battle to win as many seats as possible in the Convention is unleashed, even La Moneda confirmed this Monday that several government officials are interested in running.
At the same time, the ministers of Labor and Social Development -María José Zaldívar and Karla Rubilar- ruled out leaving their positions to run as candidates.
