The conflict in La Araucana continues to be a blind knot for the current government, and sectors close to La Moneda have chosen to feed the thesis of drug trafficking and foreign intervention.
So at least did the president of the Confederation of Production and Commerce (CPC), Juan Sutil, who in an interview with The Mercury He denounced that “there is a Colombian linked to drug trafficking, his name is ‘el Paisa’, who wants territorial control of La Araucanía.”
According to the business leader, the information is in the hands of the main authorities of the country. “At least I have the moral tranquility of having told the first and second authorities of the country, the President, the president of the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies, the ministers,” he said.
Sutil, who has investments in the region and makes frequent visits to the area, added that he also informed parliamentarians in the region about it. However, it has not seen progress on this issue. “Opposition and Government are in a quarrel and not worried about the problems. I met with all the senators in the region, they know in depth what is happening, what has not happened is that they sit at the table to really look for a solution, “he said.
The president of the CPC went further and indicated that “the problems of La Araucanía are escalating more and more. There is a uniformed guerrilla with boots, black equipment, that travels through Arauco spreading terrorism and fear. Non-Mapuche Mapuches are being harassed and threatened (..) In Arauco, control is held by drug trafficking representatives ”.
“My greatest concern is that the umbilical cord of this kind of guerrilla ceases to be the problem of land and becomes many crimes related to drug trafficking,” he added.
In his opinion, the authorities should take action on the matter. “Since the return to democracy, the State and the governments of Chile have made two big mistakes: pretending that this problem is solved by the central government and that all palliative measures in support of poverty. Here the problems are political ”, he maintains.
According to Sutil, the issue “must be truly faced, with dignity, land, political and cultural representation.”
