Former Paraguayan international goalkeeper José Luis Chilavert, 55, announced on Friday his candidacy for the presidential elections in Paraguay to be held in 2023 with the aim of “ending corruption” in the country.

The former footballer who went down in history for scoring 48 goals despite his demarcation as a goalkeeper, makes the leap to politics 16 years after his retirement from the pitch.

Chilavert played two World Cups and wore the shirts of Vélez Sarsfield, Peñarol and San Lorenzo, among other clubs.

Chilavert’s chosen slogan for his campaign will be “Proud to be Paraguayan!”

A candidacy that has become real after five months ago, the former Guaraní goalkeeper revealed his plans for the presidency, with which he has been very critical in recent years.
