The leader of the Republican Party, José Antonio Kast, affirmed that he may not be willing to support the mayor of Las Condes, Joaquín Lavín, in an eventual second presidential round.
The former candidate for La Moneda pointed out in the program “Pauta libre” that “Joaquín Lavín has run several times as a presidential candidate. In the first I collaborated intensely in his campaign, in the second as well. In fact, in my old district, Lavín he won Sebastián Piñera “.
“But he now stands in the social democracy and points to the center-right. He changed the axis. He stopped being on the right. So, therefore, will he be the one called to unite the right? It seems not to me” , he claimed.
In that sense, he indicated that “it is the citizenship that has to reconnect with the truth with politics and the truth is done by saying things by name, not looking for or raising fantasies such as ‘national unity'”.
“Could Joaquín Lavín make a government of national unity with the Communist Party, with the Frente Amplio, with Hugo Gutiérrez, with Carmona, with Teillier?”
Asked if he believes Lavín, Kast affirmed that “no and I am increasingly distant from him” and indicated that he would not support him in a possible second round: “In the conditions we are in today, I would subtract myself.”
