With the broadcast of the series ‘The Last Dance’, the figure of the basketball player Michael Jordan once again monopolized the portals and sports media of the world.
And not only because of the specific passages that the television space shows. With the impulse of the documentary, stories and anecdotes of ‘His Majesty’ have been recalled.
One of them details the day that Michael Jordan played an NBA engagement completely drunk, after spending an afternoon drinking beers alongside Jeremy Roenick, Chicago Blackhawks ice hockey player.
But, beyond the alcohol day, the most striking thing was what happened next: Jordan bet that he would score more than 40 points that same night … And he did!
“I bet you we won by more than 20, I make more than 40”
The anecdote, which occurred while it was taking place during the 1991-92 season, was revealed by Roenick himself. “It was like the end of the season for us, the end of the season for them. I get a call from Michael. ‘Find me at Sunset Ridge. We will play 18 holes, ’he said,” he said.
“We played golf and I earned him a thousand bucks and he was ready to go. I thought the Bulls were playing Cleveland that night. So I said to myself, ‘I think he’s going to leave, it’s 10’. But no, he said ‘No, let’s play again,” “he said.
Then, according to Roenick, accompanied by several beers they started a new game. “We gave him another 18 holes, I won him a couple of dollars. He had been drinking all afternoon and now he had to go from Sunset Ridge to the stadium, “he explained.
“I made a joke. I said I would bet everything I won on Cleveland, “he recalled, but Jordan’s response surprised him:” I will tell you one thing, he says ‘I bet you we won by more than 20 points and I make more than 40’. I said I accept. ”
Roenick made no secret that he thought he would easily win the new bet and could double his win. His argument was solid: “After 36 holes of golf and at least 10 beers on top,” he said wryly.
What did the son of a bitch do? He scored 52 points!
The ice hockey player admitted that he followed the broadcast of the game. I practically wanted to corroborate a new triumph.
However, he ended up even more stunned: “What did the son of a bitch do? He scored 52 points! The Bulls won by 24 ″, he added.
This story ended up corroborating a theory that Roenick had been thinking about. “Michael Jordan to me is probably the best athlete i have ever seen, with which I have been ”, he expressed.
Let’s note that this season the Chicago Bulls became NBA champion after defeating Portland 4-2 in the final.
It was the second ‘Bulls’ championship in its history. A year earlier, they won the league with a 4-1 loss to the Lakers in the title match.
Recall that Chicago achieved two triple championships with Michael Jordan at the helm, 1990 to 93 and 1995 to 98.. His Majesty ’was the undisputed figure in each of these successes.
