The recently elected president of the Independent Democratic Union (UDI), Javier Macaya, assured this Saturday that the unit will be the fundamental axis of his management as new union helmsman, after his victory over the list headed by Víctor Pérez and Jacqueline van Rysselberghe was confirmed.
In conversation with Radio Bío Bío, the deputy analyzed his triumph obtained with the 55% of the votes and he affirmed that he will seek to change the face of the community.
As he pointed out, the union party “has to re-influence” and “be a protagonist” in the face of the multiple elections scheduled for next year.
Along these lines, he argued that abandon the “vices of traditional political parties”, of “fighting for how many seremis there are in a region or how many ministers”, to advance the unity of Chile Vamos.
“We must put ideas on the table and win the battle of content,” said Macaya.
Likewise, he ruled out that the vote obtained could be read as a punishment to the Government and pointed out that the Executive “in this is not an actor that has a very important relevance.”
“I don’t think that’s the proper reading,” he said.
Anyway, he indicated that “We are going to add content to our relationship with the Government” and that they will be more “demanding”.
Asked about the 2021 presidential elections, Macaya said that “it is a privilege to have two candidates so well positioned for what is to come”, alluding to Joaquín Lavín and Evelyn Matthei, but that they will also seek to “open the field so that everyone can participate ”.
The transfer of command is expected to take place in the second week of January.
