This Monday the former Minister of Health, Jaime Mañalich, waived his right to remain silent before the investigation opened by the deaths of Covid-19 in our country.

In a brief presented before the 3rd and 7th Guarantee Court, the defense of the former Minister of Health maintains that in view of the fact that the Prosecutor’s Office does not want to know their version of the investigations, he asks the courts to listen to his client and to schedule a hearing for this purpose.

According to what was reported by La Tercera, in the text, the lawyers Gabriel Zaliasnik and César Ramos indicate that “we have come to request to summon a hearing, so that our client, Mr. Jaime Mañalich, can give a judicial statement, as soon as posible”.

According to the defenders, in the period since Mayor Daniel Jadue, “the Public Ministry never had the initiative to summon my client to give a statement, in neither of the two investigations currently in force, in order to counteract these unfounded allegations by means of their testimony ”.

The North Central Prosecutor’s Office is processing two investigations into the former head of the Health portfolio under the status of accused by his alleged responsibilities in the deaths during the covid-19 pandemic in our country.

At the beginning of September, a request made by the lawyers representing President Sebastián Piñera —as well as the former Minister of Health, Jaime Mañalich; the Undersecretary of Health, Paula Daza; and the Undersecretary of Assistance Networks, Arturo Zúñiga— to the national prosecutor, Jorge Abbott, where they ask that the persecutor who investigates them for an allegedly negligent and serious act in the current context of pandemic and health crisis be changed.

However, the national prosecutor Jorge Abbott refused to change the prosecutor Marcelo Carrasco from the case and decided to add regional prosecutor Xavier Armendariz to the investigation.
