The doctor Izkia Siches will continue as president of the Medical College of Chile (Colmed) for the next three years after overcoming in the internal elections – held between Thursday and Sunday – the other candidate, Dr. Renato Acuña.
The list headed by Siches, “Transforming together”, he triumphed with 51.78 percent of preferences, corresponding to 9,827 votes, according to the final results proclaimed this afternoon by the union’s electoral committee.
Meanwhile, the payroll led by Acuña, “More doctors”, received the 47.39 percent of the votes: 8,993 votes.
In total, 18,977 people participated in the process during the four voting days, which corresponds to the 68.76 percent of the electoral roll.
With this triumph, Siches, who was elected president of Colmed for the first time in 2017, being the first woman to hold this position, will continue to lead the group until 2023, escorted by doctors Patricio meza and Jose Miguel Bernucci as vice president and general secretary, respectively.
