There are 18,435 cases of Covid-19 in Chile. Only today 1,427 were added to the list. In the Metropolitan Region, Puente Alto, a commune with partial quarantine, is no longer the place that leads the list of the communes with the most infections. But they are not the only communes that have experienced increases in their infections. Some exceeded 400 cases. Others are dangerously close to that number, but are not even quarantined.
For this reason, the president of the Medical College, Izkia Siches called on the government to react with “data transparency, clear messages and new containment measures.”
“The increases in new COVID19 cases are worrisome. We call on the public not to decline: reinforce self-care measures and comply with quarantine,” he wrote on his Twitter account.
One of the communes that suffered an increase in its contagion figures but that do not have measures such as confinements is Recoleta. According to the latest epidemiological report from Minsal, delivered this Saturday, a total of 398 positives are documented. So the mayor of the commune, Daniel Jadue (PC) used this data to ask the government again to order a total quarantine.
“When we had no more than 30 infections in Recoleta, we asked the Government to decree Quarantine. They did not listen. Today we have almost 400 cases !! #CuarentenaTotal is the only way to stop the pandemic. What are you waiting for ??? ”, wrote the mayor on his Twitter account.
Independencia, a commune that has 431 cases and a total quarantine, also request that the sanitary measure that governs them be applied in other sectors of the capital: “Inspection is still insufficient. We have made significant efforts with the municipal teams, but we require more police presence, and we informed the interior minister of this, “Mayor Gonzalo Durán (PS) said in conversation with Canal 13.
The commune went from 68 cases, on April 19, to 431 in the last report. Even on April 30, the official record was 257, which represents a drastic increase in cases in a very short time. For this reason, the commune returned to partial quarantine since last April 22 -from Av. Gamero to the south to the Mapocho River-, after the measure was lifted on the 2nd of that month, which was questioned by Mayor Durán.
The call to decree total quarantine was also shared by the deputy of the Christian Democracy, Daniel Verdessi: “Since the Metropolitan Region concentrates 61% of the cases, it makes us think that a special look is necessary, where I think it is necessary to go to the total quarantine in this area, since this can be escaped, we are not on a plateau, there has been an increase in cases ”.
“If we stay in a thousand cases a day for a long time, the system may collapse, and that is why I call attention to the information that is available and the opinion of the technical committee, so that more severe measures can be taken to stop now , when it is still possible, a system collapse ”, he concluded.
