The Public Ministry reformed and closed the investigation against the Maulino businessman, Francisco José Fuenzalida Calvo, charged with the homicide of a protester in Curicó.
Specifically, the investigation established that Fuenzalida Calvo on October 21, 2019 – in the middle of a social outbreak – first used his weapon against people gathered in the Alameda de Curicó, for minutes later to move to Route 5 and continue shooting.
In that second episode, a 25-year-old man identified as, Jose Miguel Uribe who managed to be taken to the Hospital of Curicó, where his death was confirmed.
In this context, and after more than a year of proceedings, the Prosecutor’s Office reformed the businessman for the crime of consummated homicide, three attempted homicides, illegal possession and possession of firearms and the crime of damages.
In the first instance, the crime of homicide had been charged to a soldier who was at the scene, who had fired some shots.
However, it was later established that the shots received by the victim had been the work of Fuenzalida Calvo, which is why the Army official was reformed for the crime of unjustified shooting.
The Curicó Prosecutor’s Office reported that it already has all the information on these events, thus allowing new procedural instances against both defendants.
About Fuenzalida Calvo, the prosecutor Miguel Cajardo It indicated that “the defendant fired shots with clear intentions to kill passersby who were in the Alameda de Curicó, managing to wound three of them. Then he moved to Ruta 5 Sur where he fired shots at some people who were there, causing the death of one of them. ”
“After a year of investigation and a large amount of background collection, in addition to witness statements, police reports and other evidence, the prosecution manages to prove the facts with clarity and precision,” remarked the persecutor.
In this way from this Thursday the prosecution has a period of 10 days to present an accusation against both defendants and thus give way to the hearing to prepare the oral trial and subsequently to the oral trial against these two people.
In the case of the businessman, according to the crimes charged, the Public Ministry could request penalties that would force him to pass even more than 15 years in jail.
