In Renca Jaime Guzmán definitely does not wear it. Various communal entities organized and carried out a citizen survey where an overwhelming 97.2% asked to remove the name of the founder of the UDI from an important avenue in the sector.
“Sometimes you have to listen to the voice of the people,” said “Puma” Rodríguez and the issue was submitted to the vote of the Municipal Council headed by Mayor Claudio Castro.
In this instance, the change of name was approved by 7 votes in favor and one abstention (6 councilors in favor plus the vote of the mayor, 1 abstention, 1 absent councilor). Thus, from next week, Avenida Jaime Guzmán will end and Avenida Dorsal returns, which corresponds to its designation of origin.
“This name change was born from the community itself, from community groups and from the Neighborhood Councils that entered a letter with thousands of signatures to the Municipality, followed by a series of conversations we had with the Council of Civil Society Organizations ( COSOC), until today’s approval in the Municipal Council ”, explained the mayor.
One of the arguments for requesting this change is related to the fact that the figure of Guzmán has no direct relationship with the commune, nor with its history and identity, in addition to corresponding to a person linked to the civic-military dictatorship and whose memory causes division among the inhabitants of the commune, explained in the municipality.
