National tennis lives a special appointment this Sunday, since the Chilean Alexa Guarachi with the American Desirae Krawczyk play the final of the women’s doubles at Roland Garros.
In front they have the binomial composed of Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic, who took the first set 6-4 at Court Philippe Chatrier.
It should be remembered that the Guarachi-Krawczyk duo defeated the Taiwanese Su-Wei Hsieh (1st) and the Czech Barbora Stryvcova (2nd), favorites to stay with the contest. Meanwhile, in the semifinals they beat this year’s champion in singles, Iga Świątek, along with Nicole Melichar.
For their part, Babos, 4th in the world in doubles, and Mladenovic, 3rd in the specialty, beat the Czechs Siniakova and Krejcikova 6-2, 4-6 and 7-5 in the semifinals.
This is the first time that a Chilean has played a Roland Garros final, since it had previously been played by Luis Ayala (1955-1956 and 1957), in addition to the Cornejo-Fillol (1972) and Gildemeister-Prajoux duo in 1982.
The only one who has been able to lift the trophy in Paris was Luis Ayala in the mixed doubles in 1956.
