A multiple collision of large proportions was registered after 2:00 p.m. this Thursday on the downhill road of the Route A-16, which connects the communes of Iquique with Alto Hospicio, in the Tarapacá Region.
The event involved 13 vehicles between public transport and private cars.
According to information from the Carabineros, the preliminary cause of the accident was due to cutting off the brakes of a truck involved in the incident.
“I was coming down from the Alto Hospicio commune to Iquique a Bolivian truck with cargo of vorax, at which, at approximately kilometer 43, its brakes were cut off and it began to descend rapidly down the slope, hitting the vehicles around it and in front of it, “explained Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Guzmán, of the militarized police.
“There are fed up damaged vehicles“, he specified.
Miraculously, I don’t know reported deceased persons, and the seven mildly injured left by the accident were evaluated by SAMU personnel who attended the scene together with the Iquique Fire Department; then they were transferred to the Regional Hospital of Iquique.
According to the background, the driver of the truck was not under the influence of alcohol so – the Prosecutor’s Office specified – it was noticed.
Although in principle a brake cut is pointed out as the cause, the SIAT de Carabineros will investigate the accident.
The descent route was cut off and the authorities requested that the vehicles go down to Iquique through the new access of Bajo Molle.
