The former PPD deputy, Jorge Tarud, announced on Wednesday the launch of his presidential candidacy for his political party and called for primaries to be held for the candidate’s election.
“I am going to compete in open primaries for the candidacy for the presidency of my party,” said the former president of the Foreign Relations and Defense Commission, Jorge Tarud, when officially lifting his candidacy for La Moneda.
“The public spoke clearly and forcefully in the past plebiscite: We will have a new constitution and also the people want to participate in the decisions, something that all political parties have to take note of,” said Tarud.
The former ambassador to Saudi Arabia, China and Australia noted that “I’m willing to gamble for Chile, as I have always done during my career and therefore I will compete in open primaries for the candidacy for the presidency of my party ”.
Further, Tarud called on independent men, women and young people, those who filled the polls in the plebiscite, to take a chance to move Chile forward.
“It is the great task that we have and that is why I want to compete, contribute with my experience and a united sense with which I have always worked for our country,” says the former parliamentarian.
In addition to Tarud, other names from the PPD have announced that they will compete for the presidency of Chile, such as the former government spokesman, Francisco Vidal, and the former foreign minister Heraldo Muñoz.
