Considering it necessary for La Moneda to address in advance the problems that thousands of families could experience due to the tightening of mobility restrictions as a result of the pandemic, parliamentarians from different benches asked the government for a new economic aid package, that includes another payment of the Family Emergency Income (IFE).
From the UDI, the head of the bench of the deputies, María José Hoffmann, estimated that, despite the fact that the Government will deliver the Covid Christmas Bonus, what is required now is to strengthen the IFE so that it reaches more sectors.
It must be paid, he said, “not only in the communes that remain in quarantine, but also in the most vulnerable sectors that have not yet managed to recover from the effects of this pandemic.”
“The government’s effort also has to cover the largest number of Chileans and be as broad as possible, for example including middle-class families that in March will have to face significant spending on education. That is why we would like it to return to evaluate the option of delivering a co-payment voucher in subsidized private schools so that no student sees their learning interrupted, “he added.
From the opposition, Senator Felipe Harboe (PPD), said that “now is when the Government has to take resources to the streets. We also want a special program, with a subsidy for female and youth employability.”
The package of measures, he agreed, should also include “an Emergency Family Income for low-income families and for middle-class families that can demonstrate a decrease in income.
The same opinion was expressed in conversation with this medium by the head of the bench of deputies of the PS, Luis Rocafull, who was emphatic that the Government must present a plan “consistent with what is being lived, and that it arrives before this crisis explodes again. We hope it will be before the end of the year.
