Universidad Católica had everything to have a good time at the end of the year. Unión La Calera lost this Wednesday to O’Higgins and the crusaders were fully prepared to receive Santiago Wanderers and escape at the top. But the “caturro” team was sure to put up the fight and the match ended 1-1.
With 48 points, three more than the guard, the UC began winning with the goal of Fernando Zampedri in the first half and began to close 2020 with a new victory. However, the porteños do not want to suffer and through Sebastián Ubilla they reached a draw.
With a very rough second half, with several even bleeding, Ronnie Fernández’s action on Valber Huerta led the visitor to a much disputed red card (see here).
Thus they reached the final minutes where the fringes pressed with everything. The older man gave them more impetus but they ended up meeting Mauricio Viana. The goalkeeper stood out on four very clear occasions and was largely responsible for the tie.
With this result, Católica closed the year as the undisputed leader with 51 units (45 Unión La Calera). Wanderers, meanwhile, reached 33 and closely watches the fight to get into Copa Sudamericana 2021.
