Hundreds of people gathered on the night from Saturday to Sunday next to the Baghdad airport, at the point where a year ago Iranian General Qassem Soleimani were assassinated and the number two of the Popular Multitude militias, Abu Mahdi al Mohandes, to claim vengeance against the United States.

The congregants, supporters of the pro-government group Popular Crowd, pro-Iranian militias and other armed factions, carriedn portraits of Soleimani and Muhandis, who died in an attack by an American drone, and banners with slogans against the North American country.

From the same point on the airport road where the attack occurred a year ago, chanted chants against America and they demanded the implementation of the resolution adopted by the Iraqi Parliament shortly after the targeted assassination demanding the departure of US troops from the country.

“It is an honor for us to be at the place where Abu Mahdi al Muhandis and Qassem Soleimani were assassinated by the despicable Trump and the US occupation forces,” Popular Crowd leader Faleh al Fayad said at the event.

The rally was a foretaste of the great demonstration called for this Sunday to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of the two leaders and that it will depart from Tahrir Square, the epicenter of the Iraqi capital.

Those attending the rally also asked that investigation results are disclosed that was done about the attack, in which eight other people died, and that those responsible inside and outside Iraq be punished.

They referred to the American action as “The crime of the airport” and “the assassination of the victory leaders,” for the role both leaders played in the defeat of the Islamic State in Iraq, in which Iran supported its neighbor with military advice and Shiite militiamen.
