How to disable emergency and amber alerts on your Samsung Galaxy phone

[ad_1]

Before I begin this tutorial, I want to start by saying that emergency and amber alerts play a vital role in the dissemination of public safety announcements, and these are essential communications. Prompt action to locate injured or missing children or the elderly is also vital. That being said, I am human, and I can admit that there have been times when I really couldn’t be interrupted (especially by a horn sound), or I was already aware of the security issue in question. Here’s how to disable or silence emergency and amber alerts on your Samsung Galaxy phone for those times when you need some relief from those flashy klaxons.

How to disable emergency and amber alerts on your Galaxy

Note: To disable emergency alerts on a Samsung Galaxy phone, you must first make sure that you have Samsung Messages set as your default SMS app. If it doesn’t, you will have to make that change first, then follow the steps below. Then you can go back to your favorite default messaging app if you want (if it’s not Samsung Messages).

Open the Configurations application
Tap on Applications.
Look for the Messages application (Samsung Messages).
Play the gear icon to access the message settings.
Tap on Notifications.

Deactivate Emergency alerts.

You can also access these settings from the Samsung Messages app.

Open the Samsung messages application
Play the three point menu in the middle to the right of the screen.
When the context menu appears, tap Configurations.

Then follow the steps outlined above in the previous section.

Please note that these steps will disable all emergency alerts (apart from presidential alerts, which cannot be disabled).

If you decide to disable or silence emergency and amber alerts on your phone, I encourage you to take a temporary action and stay alert and pay attention to public safety announcements and newsletters. You can simply silence audio or vibration alerts while receiving notifications and staying informed. Here’s how to do it.

Open the Configurations application
Tap on Applications.
Look for the Messages application (Samsung Messages).
Play the gear icon to access the message settings.

Tap on Emergency alert settings.

Enable / disable Alert sound.
Enable / disable Vibrate when sound sounds.
Tap on Alert reminder to receive reminders later.
Tap on Emergency alerts at the top of the screen

Enable / disable what emergency alerts you want to receive (I recommend leaving all this on).
