During the afternoon of this Monday, Carabineros personnel in conjunction with the North Central Prosecutor’s Office achieved the arrest of a 30-year-old Colombian citizen identified as Diego Alexander Ruíz Restrepo for his alleged participation in the murders of at least six people.
In that sense, at least seven of these occurred between November 1 and 8 in the Center of Santiago, their victims being mainly people living on the street.
After obtaining a judicial authorization, at 3:00 p.m. this Monday and with the support of the Special Police Operations Group (GOPE) of the Carabineros, they proceeded to enter the property where it was located, finding evidence such as clothing and knives that linked directly to the suspect in the facts, for which the arrest warrant was carried out.
Investigation
The general director of the Carabineros, Mario Rozas explained that a job was carried out to review the cameras, to register witnesses, a lot of information crossing. “Until now there is a pattern of conduct and there are means of proof that place it at the site of the event,” he said.

Immigration status and criminal record
Regarding the immigration situation of Ruíz Restrepo and his background, the Undersecretary of the Interior, Juan Francisco Galli, indicated that “the preliminary information that we have is that this person entered Chile regularly in 2013, however, he would have fallen into irregularity ”.
The authority also added that the subject “tried to regularize his immigration status both in 2018 and 2019, but because he had a criminal record, for having been involved in crimes of robbery with surprise, that regularization was rejected. However, due to the background that we have, until now it was with an arrest warrant and in an irregular condition in Chile. “
