Five trucks were burned by unknown persons during the afternoon of this Wednesday, May 13 in La Araucanía, on Route 5 South between Collipulli and Mulchén, which join four others, in addition to a bus from a forestry company, vandalized in the first morning hours in the same region, in the Ercilla sector.
In the attacks this afternoon, in addition to forest trucks there would be one from the Copec company. One of the vehicles was crossed on the road, so traffic was suspended.
In all cases, the hooded attackers would first have forced the drivers to descend from the machines, and then set the mobiles on fire.
These attacks motivated a wide deployment of Army and Carabineros personnel, as well as Firefighter volunteers.
“Without a doubt it is a terrorist act. I have never been afraid to describe it that way ”, stated the mayor Victor Manoli, who announced government complaints.
Juan Araya, president of the National Confederation of Truck Owners of Chile, warned that the saga of attacks in La Araucanía and also in the province of Arauco -Biobío region- “It will mean that the trucks are going to stop traveling, especially at night, through those areas for fear of attacks, with the damage that this will have for citizens.”
The union leader also criticized the role of justice.
“The police function according to the mandate of the prosecutors, and if the prosecutors are not diligent, if the complaints are kept, nothing happens. You have to want to do things, not throw them aside.
In turn, the agricultural leader Gloria Naveillán, spokeswoman for the union of workers in the Victoria-Malleco field, made a strong criticism of the Interior Minister, Gonzalo Blumel, through social networks.
