A health worker from Alaska had a severe allergic reaction after receiving the vaccine against covid-19 from Pfizer-BioNTech and is now hospitalized, but stable, according to a report released Wednesday.
The New York Times reported that the person received his dose on Tuesday, while Pfizer confirmed that it was working with local authorities to investigate the incident.
“We do not yet have all the details of the Alaska report on possible serious allergic reactions, but we are actively working with local health authorities to evaluate.” the case, said a Pfizer spokesman.
“We will closely monitor all reports suggesting serious allergic reactions after vaccination and update the label text if necessary,” he added.
Volunteers who showed up for Pfizer’s clinical trial, which numbered 44,000 people, were excluded if they had a history of allergic reactions to the vaccines or components of the Covid-19 immunizer.
Usually, The trial found no serious safety concerns, but regulators and the company continue to monitor adverse cases after vaccination.
Two health workers in Britain had similar allergic reactions, prompting the European nation’s government to advise the public to avoid getting the vaccine if they had a history of severe allergies.
The United States’ food and drug regulator, the FDA, issued an emergency approval for the immunizer with the caveat that people who have experienced allergies to the ingredients within the vaccine should avoid it.
Precisely, the FDA published this Wednesday on its Twitter account that “it is aware of information about an anaphylactic reaction in a person who received the covid-19 vaccine.”
“The agency will continue to work with the CDC (Centers for Disease Prevention) and Pfizer to better understand what happened,” he said.
The United States this week began applying this vaccine to about three million people and hopes to reach a total of 20 million people this month if another immunizer is approved, the one developed by the American laboratory Moderna.
