Former prosecutor Carlos Gajardo referred, within the framework of the threats received by the prosecutor Ximena Chong, head of the High Complexity Center North who leads the investigation of the carabinero accused of the crime of attempted murder against the 16-year-old teenager who fell into the river Mapocho, to the words issued by UDI senator Iván Moreira.

The parliamentarian had said, after making known the threats against prosecutor Chong, that this “is without crying” and something “very normal.”

In this regard, Gajardo told CNN Chile that Moreira “is probably the least qualified person to speak in this type of situation.”

This, because “it was precisely the person (Moreira) who was crying for two years for the Prosecutor to end up giving him a conditional suspension.”

“Mr. Moreira is not the most qualified person to come to teach classes on how to investigate, he was a great beneficiary of a great pardon,” he added, referring to the investigation that weighed on the senator in the Penta case for Irregular financing in political campaigns: Cause in which a conditional suspension was agreed in January 2018 and in February 2019 it was dismissed.

“We have not had the ability to apply something as basic as the principle of equality before the law. If a NN commits crimes he has to be prosecuted and investigated, if a businessman commits crimes, Ponce Lerou, for example, has to be persecuted and investigated, if a politician commits crimes, what should be done? It has to be investigated and punished ”, he concluded.
