The kinesiologist Arturo Orellana, With extensive experience with athletes from Valparaíso, he was formalized on September 29 for repeated sexual abuse against his patients. He is currently on trial and under house arrest until the charges are proven.
The professional worked for a long time at the IND of Valparaíso, being in charge of the Regional Training Center (CER). In addition, he worked at the defunct Universidad del Mar and had a consultation in the Megasasalud clinical network.
That is why after its formalization, women, athletes and ex-athletes raised their voices and made known the abuses they received from the kinesiologist for years.
One of them is Mariajesús Ortíz, who is currently 31 years old. At 15, she was invited to participate in the CER, where she met Orellana.
“He is very kind, he is very charming and friendly at first, as well as a good professional. This is how he earned my trust. But in a consultation he gave me totally inappropriate touches. He did it with the excuse that it was to detect the injury, but I knew that they did not correspond, “he told La Tercera.
“Although I was still a child, he once called me at night telling me to go to a jacuzzi where he was, with the excuse that the hydromassage would help me recover. Obviously, I told him that was not appropriate, but he continued, “he added.
The young woman decided to tell her mother about what happened and Anneliese Marholz, upon finding out, he filed a complaint with Luis Céspedes, Director of Chiledeportes, obtaining no response.
After this, the mother wrote a letter disclosing the facts. “He can be technically competent. However, she has had repeated attitudes of approach with sexual connotations towards several adolescents referred for kinesiological treatment, among them my daughter in 2005 (…) her behaviors are known by some professionals linked to sport in their profession, without having carried out or the complaint or the correction of the problem, a situation that seems outrageous to me due to the indifference of adults regarding the suitability and ethics of those who care for our daughters, ”he said.
After the letter, she was cited by Isabel Monroy, the current finance chief of the IND of Valparaíso. At the meeting, Monroy backed Orellana and dismissed the accusations.
Another testimony was released by BT, a former athlete and current kinesiologist, who a month ago declared to the Carabineros the abuses that the professional experienced.
“The truth is that no one was taken by surprise when they took him into custody. I had a reputation for being a womanizer since I was an athlete and when I told this in the WhatsApp group that I have with my athlete friends, three of the five who are there acknowledge having gone through something similar to what I experienced, “said the former athlete, who suffered abuse between 2001 and 2002.
“I am a kinesiologist and in college I realized everything. He performed improper rubs all the time under the professional excuse. Once he was attending to me, always touching me more than he should have, and there he ends up with his pants down, out of nowhere, and asks me to touch his legs so that I can compare the muscle mass that he had with that of my fellow athletes ”, He revealed.
Note that the Viña del Mar Prosecutor’s Office is already working on the investigation.
“There are facts that have already been formalized and another that has not yet been done, given that after the arrest a new victim appeared. We do not rule out that there are more and that is being investigated, ”said prosecutor Carolina Monsalve.
