This Friday, the dukes Harry and Meghan Markle announced that they will no longer actively participate in the activities of the British Royal Family, which marks his definitive departure from the monarchy.
The decision was informed to the monarch Isabel II, and confirmed through a public statement by Buckingham Palace.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed to Her Majesty the Queen that they will not return as active members of the royal family,” indicated.
In this sense, we must remember that the couple has lived for more than a year in the city of Los Angeles, United States, where they have raised their son Archie and are currently waiting for the second.
“Following conversations with the Duke, the Queen has written confirming that by moving away from the Royal Family’s work it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that a life of public service entails. Therefore, honorary military appointments and royal patronages of the Dukes will be returned to His Majesty, before being redistributed among the active members of the Royal Family ”, they stated.
From the palace they assured that the relations between the families will continue to be positive, although at the moment it is not known how the return of titles and military appointments will be.
In this regard, Harry will be stripped of his titles from The Royal Marines, RAF Honington, Royal Navy Small Ships and Diving, in addition to sponsorships from the Rugby Football Union, the Rugby Football League and the London Marathon.
For her part, the actress must leave her position as patron of the National Theater in London, which had been awarded by Elizabeth II in 2019.
“While everyone is saddened by his decision, the Duke and Duchess remain very dear members of the family,” they stated.
