The prince harry, who partly blames the press for the death of his mother, Princess Diana in 1997, declared the American television star Oprah Winfrey that he feared that history would repeat itself.

Harry and his wife Meghan Markle caused an earthquake with their decision in early 2020 to abandon their responsibilities within the British monarchy.

On Sunday CBS broadcast an excerpt from an “intimate” interview of Queen Elizabeth II’s grandson with Winfrey, scheduled for March 7 on US television.

“My biggest concern was that history would repeat itself”said Harry, 36, apparently referring to the death of his mother, who died in a car accident in Paris in 1997 while trying to escape the paparazzi.

The Duke of Sussex has long had a difficult relationship with British tabloids and recently declared that pressure from the British press was “Destroying” their “mental health”.

“I’m just relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife next to me.”she said to Winfrey, taking Markle by the hand.

“Because I can’t even imagine what it must have been like for her [Diana], go through this process alone all those years, “he said. “It has been incredibly hard for both of us, but at least we are together”, acknowledged.

The couple, who announced last month they are expecting a second child, have filed several lawsuits against UK publications arguing invasion of their privacy, and have pointed to that as the main reason for their break with the British royal family, which became effective April 2020.

Buckingham Palace announced on February 19 that the couple lost their last titles, after confirming that they permanently withdraw from their obligations as active members of the royal family.

Harry will lose his military titles, specifically in the Royal Marines, and Meghan, a former actress, will renounce titles of a charitable order, for example within the National Theater in London or in Commonwealth institutions.

Harry and Meghan, with their son Archie, live in a luxurious villa near Los Angeles, and have already signed contracts with Netflix and Spotify.
