21,863 people have lost their lives to covid-19 since the start of the pandemic, according to the latest Death Report published this Saturday by the Department of Health Statistics and Information (DEIS) of the Minsal.
The figures are broken down into 16,404 deaths confirmed via PCR and another 5,459 cataloged as “probable”.
Thus, according to the document issued this afternoon, in the last two weeks a total of 700 deaths have been registered by covid-19, with an adjusted rate of 2.3% per 100,000 inhabitants.
This situation keeps the authorities on alert, considering that during this day the daily infections reached the highest figures in 5 months at the national level.
First cause, by far
As the DEIS report indicates, covid-19 remains the first cause of death in Chile.
The 21,863 deaths caused by the virus are followed by others 7,475 caused by ischemic heart disease; 7,169 for cerebrovascular diseases; 6,135 for hypertensive diseases; and 5,496 for malignant tumors in the digestive organs.
