Government incongruity accused of launching campaign for safe displacement in National Holidays | National

In an apparent incongruity, the government launched its campaign on Sunday “This is my son” for a safe movement during National Holidays, while the program is in progress “Fondéate in your house”, which calls on Chileans not to leave their homes during these celebrations.

The event was led by the director of Senda, Carlos Charme, the executive secretary of Conaset, Johanna vollrath, and the Minister of Transport, Gloria Hutt, who from the Plaza de la Constitución called on people not to consume drugs or alcohol in excess and, even less, to drive under the influence of these substances; which will be supported by radio and television ads.

According to Charme, the objective is to reduce the figures of last year, where 1,214 traffic accidents were registered, with 25 deaths and 790 injuries, the vast majority pedestrians.

“This year we will be in all regions of the country, with officials who will supervise. For this reason, if you make the bad decision to consume drugs or consume alcohol in excess, do not make a second bad decision to drive, as you are putting the community at risk, ”said the director of Senda.

Incongruity?

However, the event was not without controversy, since the authorities were questioned if it was not an incongruity to hold an event calling for safe displacement, while on the other hand the program “Fondéate en tu casa” urges people to stay at home these National Holidays.

In this regard, the Minister of Transport, Gloria Hutt, pointed out that “Go to your home” calls for family celebrations with a limited number of people, however there are a significant number of communes where displacement is allowed. “It is enough to be on the street to be in a risk that we want to avoid,” said the authority.

“Our responsibility is to avoid possible traffic accidents. And hopefully there are no claims, because it has cost a lot and we still have not managed to reduce accidents significantly, “said Hutt.

One of the data that was delivered is that despite being a few days ago in phase 3 of preparation, there are already communes in the Metropolitan Region where vehicular traffic is just 15% below the displacement figures of a normal year.
