The Government, through the Ministry of Social Development and Family, confirmed that this Wednesday, September 30, the fifth payment of the Emergency Family Income will begin (IFE) to those who have been beneficiaries of the direct subsidy in previous months.

This, after the announcement made by the President of the Republic, Sebastián Piñera, who reported the decision to extend the IFE payment for two additional months, with a fifth contribution in September $ 70,000 and a sixth contribution in October $ 55,000 per person in households with up to 4 members without formal income.

Thus, for example, a family of 4 members without formal income will receive an IFE in September of $ 280,000 pesos.

The benefit will reach more than 3,200,000 households headed mainly by women heads of households, covering more than 8 million people.

The Emergency Family Income is an initiative that is part of the set of measures that the Government has implemented to protect households whose sources of income have been affected by the socio-economic effects of COVID-19.

IFE coverage has been consistently on the rise. While the first contribution reached more than 1.2 million households, in its fourth contribution it reached about 3 million households.

Fifth contribution

As explained by the Minister of Social Development and Family, Karla Rubilar, “the IFE is one of the most important policies within the Social Protection Network that we have implemented in the context of the pandemic and with this extension to two additional contributions, this subsidy direct from the State will reach 3,229,838 households, a total of 8,068,158 people, that is, we will exceed the coverage of the four previous contributions ”.

He also highlighted that “58% of the households that will benefit have a woman as the head of the household.”

In turn, 56.5% of the households benefiting from this contribution correspond to households with completely informal incomes, 29.9% to households with formal incomes below the threshold, and 13.5% to households with PBS or APS pensioners.

Law No. 21,230, which grants an Emergency Family Income, established four payments of this benefit and the possibility of extending it to a fifth and sixth payment if sanitary conditions are maintained.

Those who require the IFE for the first time, must complete the application by October 7 and will receive payment at the end of October.
