The Ministry of Health explained that Chile has one of the worldwide lowest case fatality rates of Covid-19, in comparison with countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
According to the balance of this Friday, Chile registered 9 new deaths, reaching the figure of 294 deaths because of the virus. Although it represents a rise, after this Thursday only four were registered – the lowest since April 15 -, compared to other nations, the number is lower.
As of May 4, Chile records a 1.3% case fatality rate, which corresponds to one of the lowest in relation to OECD countries. In that sense, It is located between Iceland, which has 0.6% and New Zealand, with another 1.3%.
In addition, and as the daily balances portray it, deaths from Covid-19 would decrease. After reaching a peak of deaths between April 25 and 27, the curve registers a sustained fall until this May 7.
Meanwhile, the Minsal also assured that this Thursday a record was reached in the application of PCR diagnostic tests, reaching 11,735 exams, which to date have 255,961.
In this sense, the undersecretary of Assistance Networks, Arturo Zúñiga, stated that “yesterday we made a record of 12 thousand tests by PCR the last 24 hours. This number of exams it places us in the first place among the countries of South America and at a very high level among the countries of Europe ”, he stressed.
