He Minister Julio Isamit reported that, so far the current government (since March 2018), National Assets has paid 1,345 million pesos to people who have made complaints about “vacant inheritances.”
These inheritances are those that, since it does not have heirs or will, the State of Chile acquires as the last legal successor. The people who carry out the process receive 30 percent of the tax assessment of the denounced property.
“The complaint of vacant inheritances is very important, because thanks to this procedure the State takes over properties that no longer have an owner. In this way, at Bienes Nacionales we seek to give it a good administration that is directly beneficial to the people and the community, avoiding misuse, “said Isamit.
The owner of BB.NN. detailed that the 1,345 million pesos have been distributed to 354 beneficiaries throughout Chile.
“Although we received complaints of vacant inheritances from different people -mainly neighbors and people close to the deceased-, Any natural or legal person who detects a property without heirs has the right to file a complaint for vacant inheritance“, he indicated.
How to do the procedure
This complaint is made by completing a form available on the website of the Ministry of National Assets or, in person, at any of the portfolio offices in the country.
In this way, the complainant who meets the requirements is entitled to an “award” equivalent to the 30 percent of the liquid value of the respective assets, once the effective possession in favor of the Treasury is completed. “For example, if a property is awarded by the Treasury at 40 million, the complainant will receive 12 million for making the complaint,” explains the portfolio.
“It’s about a free procedure, without cost, and all the information and documentation required is specified on the BienesNacionales.cl website, as well as the contact numbers in case consultations are required, “said Isamit.
Regional balance
The official balance of beneficiaries of vacant inheritance complaints, between March 11, 2018 and June 2020, by region, is as follows:
