The undersecretary of the Interior, Juan Francisco Galli, clarified why Diego Ruiz (30) had not been expelled from the country, accused of at least six murders that occurred in downtown Santiago.
According to the investigation, Ruiz entered the country in 2013 with a tourist visa and despite trying to regularize his situation, he did not complete the procedures and later committed a series of crimes.
Galli specified that “indeed he has a sentence of 187 days and therefore that sentence could have been replaced by the alternative penalty of expulsion. The Department of Immigration and Migration requested to attend the hearing to determine the sentence in order to request the alternative penalty of expulsion, however, this was not carried out. “
“This person not only had that conviction, but was being investigated for other crimes and therefore was subject to precautionary measures such as arraigo, therefore such criminal investigations should be carried out before taking an administrative measure such as expulsion “he added.
Ruiz will go to detention control during this day.
